Merging Vertices at Center and Bedroom
K, so I'm not really impressed by this one. Not even going to add it to the Creations section of my site. I've been wanting to model furniture for a bedroom and this was my first feeble attempt. I had found the armoire design on Pinterest and although it's not quite what I had hoped for, I'm confident that I'll be able to get it right one day. I should've beveled the inner edges so that it'd look more like 2 doors. The inspiration photo that I used had the left door pivot open - I wasn't sure how to do that. But I'm definitely curious now to figure out how.
I used a few new shortcuts today! First up was M to merge the vertices at center. I used that when creating the curved arch shape for the armoire, bed, and the door. Next was S which was used after extruding along normals for an even thickness. I also used the Boolean tool for the door but I can't remember the shortcut from the top of my head for that one.
If anything, I was most excited that I found a proper way to create the foundation for a room (i.e. floor and walls). I need to go back and take notes for these steps so that I can reference it later. I had found a tutorial that did a different approach and whew, it was convoluted.
Can't wait to learn about simulating cloth so that the bed can have a proper pillow and sheets. Also, this room is entirely too small for this furniture haha.

So, this render almost never happened. And by the looks of the associated image for this blog post, you can probably pick up what I did wrong. But before I get into this rendering, let's start off like civilized people and talk about what I learned while engaging in my daily Blender concepts lesson.

100 Days of Blender
That's right - I'm committing to 100 days of learning Blender. For full transparency, I've been learning Blender for well over a year now. So, I'm not completely new to the platform. However, I'm also not a professional by any means. I've completed a lot of the tutorials most Blender newbies have done and have also created my own models (some are even used in production today at work). Despite my ability to create, I still feel like I'm missing so much foundational information. Applying materials is shaky, lighting is laughable, and don't even get me started on animation. My Blender knowledge base is just a mash up of random moments of learning how to use the platform.

Loop Cuts and Keyboards
I actually loved my day 2 so much! It's got me pumped for day 3. Okay, so I spent the evening reviewing a video on Loop Cuts. Not much to say about that but I did learn something I didn't know before about Loop Cut & Slide. You can slide a vertex along connected edges or a singular edge without distorting the geometry of the model! To do so, the shortcut is G + G. I also learned that loop cuts stop at triangles or n-gons because it's not obvious which direction to go next!
